The Court of Auditors validates the public accounts in Senegal for 2022: What implications?

The Court of Auditors recently declared the public accounts for the 2022 financial year as well as for previous years compliant. This decision allowed the adoption of regulatory laws confirming the veracity of the figures in the finance law until 2022. For 2023, the Court is still working to assess the compliance of the accounts according to the finance law. The adoption of these laws underlines the parliamentary control exercised after the audit of public accounts by a specialized court.

In this context, it is important to emphasize that it is difficult to distort public financial data. These are established through collaboration between the Ministry of Finance, the National Agency for Statistics and Demography, and the BCEAO, while respecting the standards of budgetary discipline.

However, the investment climate has been disrupted by new political decisions, such as the renegotiation of contracts and the halting of many projects. This created confusion in the economy, leading to a loss of confidence and a slowdown in economic growth.

An IMF representative recently reported a notable economic slowdown in Senegal. This disinvestment led to an increased budget deficit and rising inflation. In the past, Senegal has been able to count on budgetary support from friendly countries, but the current situation raises questions about the state of these traditional relations.

Restoring confidence is crucial to encourage investment and stimulate wealth creation, in order to increase revenues and create jobs.
