Several dozen events are planned throughout the weekend of September 21 and 22 in the Gers, on the occasion of the European Heritage Days, which this year will highlight the “Heritage of routes, networks and connections”. “La Dépêche du Midi” has selected ten events open to the public, in order to discover or rediscover the Gers, its heritage and its history in a different way.

Two days dedicated to heritage: as every year, many events are planned in the Gers, these September 21 and 22, on the occasion of the European Heritage Days (JEP). “La Dépêche du Midi” has selected about ten of them.

Souvenir at the Meilhan maquis

The Amicale du Maquis de Meilhan et Bataillon Raynaud is organizing an exhibition on Saturday and Sunday devoted to parachute drops, with equipment and weapons intended for the resistance in the department. Guided tours will be provided on both days at 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. New signage has also been installed, allowing visitors to discover a lot of information freely.

A stroll in Jeanne’s Garden

The exterior of the Château de Homps will welcome visitors throughout the weekend. The Jardin de Jeanne, inspired by the Middle Ages, offers a journey through time during a free walk. Vegetable, aromatic and medicinal plants will be discovered among the regional vines and fruit trees. The Gascon room of the château, built at the end of the 13th century, is currently being restored but it will still be possible to go through the interior doors to discover the bedroom on the first floor, which holds its secrets. Guided candlelight tour of the Hôtel de Mellet

The Hôtel de Mellet, in Condom, opens its doors for two unusual evenings, Saturday and Sunday, from 8 p.m.: guided night tours by candlelight. On the program: welcome by the owner and his daughters, tour of the hall, the octet lounge, the boudoir, the grand salon and the dining room, piano interludes and tasting of the establishment’s products. A virtual experience at Micro-Folie

On the occasion of the JEP, the Micro-Folie de Sarrant is offering, Saturday and Sunday, from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., a 360-degree virtual reality projection of the exterior of the castles of Monbrun, Avensac and Saint-Léonard, embellished with surprising animated illustrations. A slideshow on the photographic exhibition of the heritage inventory called “From valleys to hillsides, a Gersoise stroll” will also be broadcast continuously. No reservation required. “Animals during the Great War”

The gardens of the Mirande town hall become a camp of the 1914-1918 war. Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., a historical reenactment takes place in town, with the main subject, “Animals during the Great War”. Presentation of animals and carriage rides, post house, French boxing demonstration… Many activities are planned. Sunday, at 3 p.m., in the wedding hall of the town hall, readings of testimonies on animals during the First World War will be offered in collaboration with the Paul Fontan d’Aignan association.

Diving under the Sainte-Marie Cathedral

Throughout the weekend, in , many visits and activities are offered. Most of the historic buildings will also be open to the public, including the crypt of the Sainte-Marie cathedral, which will be accessible, for the first time in years, on Saturday afternoons from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.

In the rooms of Flaran Abbey

Flaran Abbey, in -sur-Baïse, will be open continuously from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will offer many activities, in addition to its exhibitions. A torchlight storytelling walk

A lively visit to discover the Castet differently: the walk will leave on Saturday, at 9 p.m., from the town hall square of Sainte-Christie-d’Armagnac and head towards the mound where participants will be able to listen to the first tale. Then, visitors will visit almost all the monuments on the site, each place being the setting for a new story. All the tales are inspired by the history of Sainte-Christie, transformed into legends, or by Gascon, Gersois or Occitan myths. Free participation.

Take a look up at the bell tower of Lectoure Cathedral

A climb for a panoramic view of the Gers: the bell tower of Lectoure Cathedral will be accessible on Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and on Sunday from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. An opportunity to discover the interior of the monument and access the view of the Gers valleys. Discover the life of the Gallo-Romans with Elusa

Elusa Ancient Capital opens its doors for free all weekend: at 10:30 a.m. (Villa), 2 p.m. (Museum), 3:30 p.m. (Villa) and 4:15 p.m. (Domus), guided tours are scheduled.
