A major accident occurred on Route 116 near Taschereau Boulevard on the South Shore of Montreal near the Saint-Hubert sector, in Longueuil. One person was transported to a hospital.

Route 116 is currently completely blocked in the direction of Montreal.

“Avoid the sector of the 116 in the direction of Montreal between chemin Chambly and boulevard Taschereau,” says Ghislain Vallières, agent for the police department of the agglomeration of Longueuil (SPAL). “It’s a real parking lot here.”

The SPAL has also made an important update on its Twitter account citing a major obstruction that could last several hours.

According to the SPAL, two vehicles were traveling on Route 116 towards Montreal when they collided.

The driver of one of the two vehicles was quickly transported to a hospital, while the other was met by investigators.

“The investigators are reconstructing the facts of the accident,” said Mr. Vallières. “According to the first observations on the spot, the speed could possibly be in question.”

While the police try to reconstruct the circumstances that led to this accident, SPAL teams are deployed to redirect traffic.

“We have our reconstruction teams in scenes and accidents, investigators and our patrols who are in support because you will understand that traffic must be redirected”, explains the agent.

Route 116 is closed, but nearby streets are still open, albeit completely jammed with traffic.

“We are talking about almost a kilometer of traffic jams,” says Mr. Vallières.
