No need to validate your transport ticket from this Wednesday, August 23, 2023. The Alpes-Maritimes department has been placed on a level 2 pollution alert. The Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis then makes all public transport free.
The alert was triggered following the persistence of the ozone pollution episode for the 4th consecutive day, notes the prefecture in a press release. A phenomenon that should last Thursday and Friday.
The Saint-Isidore toll also free?
The entire Lignes d’Azur network is free from this Wednesday morning in an attempt to limit the effects of pollution on the territory, announced the Métropole in a press release sent Tuesday evening.
However, Christian Estrosi recommends “trying to limit your trips to the essentials and prefer carpooling when you have no other choice.
The president of the Métropole explains that he asked free Saint-Isidore toll“which Atmosud experts have shown us to be a considerable source of pollutants”.
A measure that could allow “fluidity when passing the toll and reduce more traffic on the A8 rather than in the city center of Nice”, he specifies.
Heavy goods vehicles in transit prohibited on metropolitan roads
The president-mayor also asked the prefect to prohibit the circulation of all heavy goods vehicles “which only cross our department”. “In coherence, I take a prohibition order to use mainland roads for all heavy goods vehicles in transit”.
Cruise ships are also targeted since Christian Estrosi wishes to prohibit their stopovers during the alert.
And as this episode of pollution is combined with a major heat wave, I ask you personally, as I have not stopped doing since the beginning of the summer, to be attentive to each other, in particular the most vulnerable.
Until the end of the pollution episode
“Our measures will continue to apply as long as this episode continues,” said the elected official. Please note that the parcazur are not affected by free admission.
According to a press release from the prefecture, the AtmoSud forecasts establish “a risk remains high for Thursday and potentially for Friday.
