An explosion at the Uniboard plant in Sayabec sparked a fire Thursday morning. The emergency services were notified of the incident around 9:45 a.m. Nearly thirty firefighters from the area were dispatched to the scene to extinguish the flames. They managed to bring the flames under control around 4:30 p.m.

According to the Fire Department of the MRC in La Matapédia, firefighters worked hard to bring the blaze under control.

The fire, due to the explosion, spread in the walls, in the ceiling. [Il a fallu] work to put out the beams and inside, all over the place.

The Sûreté du Québec reported a minor injury. According to company management, the worker suffered no physical injuries, but suffered nervous shock as a result of the explosion.

The factory was evacuated. It has around 400 employees, but Uniboard management did not say how many of them were on site when the crash happened Thursday.

The exact circumstances of the explosion are unknown at this time. According to our information, this would have occurred on a dryer in the factory.

Uniboard management informs that only one production line has been affected. All plant activities have since been suspended.
