MONTREAL — A 16-year-old boy died following a swerve that occurred overnight on Île Bizard, in Montreal.
The latter was in a vehicle that left the road on Sunday, around 2:45 a.m., on Chemin du Bord-du-Lac, near rue Boismenu. He succumbed to his injuries a few hours after arriving at the hospital.
“According to initial information, the driver may have lost control of the vehicle and hit a low wall and ended up on its side,” said Constable Mariane Allaire Morin, spokesperson for the Montreal Police Department ( SPVM).
The other two occupants of the vehicle, aged 18, were also taken to hospital, but there is no fear for their lives.
These two individuals should be questioned during the day by SPVM investigators, especially since it was not clear who was driving the vehicle.
“We have not confirmed who was driving. When the police arrived on the scene, all the young people were outside the vehicle. The investigation will determine who was driving and in what condition the driver was, but all hypotheses are currently being analyzed,” said another SPVM spokesperson, Sabrina Gauthier.
The vehicle was heavily damaged following the impact and a security perimeter was erected to allow investigators to analyze the scene and try to understand the circumstances surrounding the event.
The SPVM could not immediately specify whether alcohol, drugs or speed were involved, but no hypothesis was ruled out.
“The police analyze the traces of braking, obviously the speed – if it was too high or not (…) The version of each person will be evaluated and investigated. Thereafter, we will be able to analyze whether speed or alcohol had a link with this fatal accident, ”said Ms. Gauthier.
The SPVM investigation is continuing.
