Two people were arrested after a fight that took place on Place Gabriel-Péri in Lyon. These events date back to Monday, September 2, around 9:30 p.m., BFM Lyon has learned.

The fight broke out for reasons that are still unknown. Blows were exchanged and glass bottles were thrown.

Tear gas used

Several police officers were quickly mobilised to put an end to the disturbance of public order. On site, they used tear gas to separate people and intervene.

While the atmosphere seems to be calming down in the Guillotière district, these new events are a reminder of the complex management of this sensitive site in the heart of Lyon, which has attracted media and political attention due to its insecurity in recent months.

Many measures have been put in place to ease the tensions in this area. In particular, police numbers have been increased.

The Place Gabriel-Péri also adopted a new look this summer after two years of work. But, despite the 300,000 euros invested by the city of Lyon and the two million euros by the metropolis, the final result did not seem to convince the inhabitants.

New construction work is due to begin in 2025 to extend the tramway station platforms and improve the safety of cycle paths.
