VSFive young people from Brussels are or have been tried in Malta for rape, kidnapping and ill-treatment, report several media which refer to the Maltese press. One of them allegedly raped a 17-year-old French woman. The five individuals also allegedly kidnapped, assaulted and robbed the girl’s 16-year-old friend.

The teenager was coming out of a relationship with a 20-year-old Belgian in Malta. Last Friday, they had met to possibly reconnect, but when the young woman learned that her ex had a new girlfriend, she left in anger.

The next evening, accompanied by a 16-year-old friend, she saw her ex again with his new girlfriend in a nightclub in Zebbug. Around five in the morning, when she wanted to take a taxi home, her ex offered to accompany her. In the vehicle, he would have made her drink a very alcoholic drink until she lost consciousness. She reportedly woke up in Sliema to her ex’s apartment who was raping her while her friends were filming the scene.

They also allegedly took her 16-year-old boyfriend there and abused him for hours. In addition, they would have tried to buy a luxury handbag worth 2,000 euros with the young man’s smartphone.

The two victims were reportedly only released on Sunday around 1 p.m. after which they surrendered to the police. Monday evening, their alleged executioners were apprehended just before boarding a plane.

In court, the former boyfriend and three other suspects aged 20, 18 and 17 pleaded not guilty. The fifth, a 17-year-old professional footballer, admitted assaulting the 16-year-old boy and received a one-year suspended prison sentence. He has already returned to Belgium.
