Arrested by Interpol
Mohammed Amine Oumina was able to be arrested in Spain thanks to a report made by the SQ at Interpol. Recall that Interpol is an intergovernmental organization whose full name is the International Criminal Police Organization.
Interpol has 195 member countries and promotes collaboration between law enforcement authorities. This police force allows investigators to exchange and access information on offenses and criminals. They also benefit from technical and operational support.
In the case of Mohammed Amine Oumina, the SQ confirms that a red alert has been issued to all police forces. As explained by criminal lawyer Me Célina Saint-François, there is an extradition treaty between Canada and Spain, which can make things easier. The two countries have an already established collaboration.
However, there are procedures to follow for a person arrested abroad to return to the country, starting with a provisional arrest, underlines Mr.e Saint Francois.
Upon his arrival, Mohammed Amine Oumina will appear in court in Sherbrooke in connection with the charge of manslaughter relating to the events that occurred last April.
