Romain Saint-Etienne, coach of US Grigny
“It was a balanced match, with a great Fontenay team, who play a level above us. Overall, I think we deserve to win. We defended very well, that was our strength. We contained their attackers well, who were good players. Then, we put them in difficulty with defensive-offensive transitions, but they remain a good R2 team, well organized. We knew how to convert the opportunity we needed in the first half, and we had a big opportunity to kill the match in the second half, without succeeding in doing so. We managed to keep this score of 1-0, which reflects the balance of the match, even if we were not particularly endangered by this Fontenay team.
Being in the regional final was already historic. The Grigny U18 team is very young, it has only existed at regional level for two seasons. I've been the team's trainer for three years, we won the Essonne Cup last season. This year, we had the chance to qualify for the regional final of the Coupe Gambardella for the first time in the history of the club. It will therefore be the same thing with the 1st national round. Now we will wait for the draw. We have two options: either we want to bring a professional club to bring great emotions to our city and our club, or we want a team that is a little more affordable to have a chance to go a little further. We remain competitors and want to go as far as possible in this competition. »
