The strike by cleaners at Saint-Charles station in Marseille continues

On strike since Monday, cleaning agents no longer collect trash cans in train station and those in metro stations.

On the 5th day of the strike by employees of the Laser company, which ensure the cleanliness of Saint-Charles station and the city’s metro stations, the garbage cans overflow in the large hall. The strike movement was renewed this Friday, May 16 for an indefinite period.

The mobilized employees criticize the new management of the SNCF for wanting “rationalize and get rid of employees“. Staff representative, Kamel Djeffel accuses the railway company of “benefit from social assistance for reintegration to the detriment of employees“For him, the SNCF would prefer to pay people in reintegration, in a precarious situation with salaries”often very low“.

According to the trade unionist, 102 employees on permanent contracts and 18 fixed-term contracts are concerned. Kamel Djeffel evokes a similar situation experienced last year at Aix TGV station, where “12 people were put on the floor“.

The strike movement also affects the metro stations of the Régie des Transports de Marseille, where the same cleaning company operates. But the demands are different at the RTM.

The striking staff accuse the management of having imposed “penalties on cleaning services whose quality is called into question, penalties which are passed on to the salaries of agents“.

Even if after the negotiations, the company Laser “undertakes to regularize the employees through the transfers that have been retained“, according to Kamel Djeffel, he considers this measure insufficient.

The inter-union calls on the prefecture and the departmental council to participate in a round table, in order to get out of this crisis.
