At dinner time, several police officers were on the scene, as well as an armored truck. Given the historical tensions between Mohawks and police, the police were ready for any eventuality and several intervention units were on site in the event of an overflow.
According to our information, several police officers who were given the mandate to go to Kanesatake to ensure the smooth running of the operation were not particularly keen on the idea of setting foot in Kanesatake.
“When we go there, we can’t help but think of Marcel Lemay,” said an SQ policeman on condition of anonymity, referring to the corporal killed during the Oka crisis in July 1990. .
