POLITICS – Very strong reactions. The continuous news channel Franceinfo is the subject of numerous criticisms (particularly in the political sphere) for its coverage of the exchange of hostages and detainees between Hamas and Israel on Saturday January 25. The station announces that it has “ suspended » the person responsible for a title which has not gone unnoticed.
Gaza: 200 Palestinian prisoners released in exchange for four Israeli hostages
It all starts with a banner broadcast on air and a screenshot on social networks. Several Internet users notice that the channel, around 6 p.m., describes the 200 people released by Israel as “ Palestinian hostages ”, and not “ prisoners » or “ detainees », according to the terminology used for example by the AFP. A choice which sparked initial strong criticism.
The Macronist MP for French people abroad (particularly based in Israel) Caroline Yadan explained in particular on the social network indecent blindfold ».
An hour later, the channel presented its “ apologies to viewers » on social networks. “ Following an unacceptable error, a totally inappropriate headline concerning the situation in the Middle East was briefly broadcast in one of our newspapers on franceinfo channel 27 », explained the channel’s X account around 7 p.m., specifying that “ the manager has been suspended ».
A message – relayed by Caroline Yadan, who calls for the dismissal of the suspended person – which this time arouses the ire of defenders of the Palestinian cause and several elected members of La France insoumise. MEP Rima Hassan denounces, for example, the “ pressure from the pro-Israeli lobby in France » when her colleague Ersilia Soudais accuses the channel “ to prevent (its) journalists from doing their work. »
