the essential
The closing session of the first Citizens' Assembly of Haute-Garonne was held this Saturday morning at the Departmental Council. Applications to participate in the second citizen body will be launched in March.
“The proposals of the Citizens’ Assembly are as relevant as those of the design offices!” Sébastien Vincini is satisfied. After 25 months of work, the first Citizens' Assembly of the Departmental Council kept its promises. The closing of the 162-member citizen body was held yesterday. “I salute the massive, in-depth, technical and very concrete dimension of the reports established by the Citizens’ Assembly,” underlines the president of the Departmental Council. “This is the first time that the community has taken it up to make proposals.”
During these two and a half years of work, members focused on three major areas: ecological transition, food insecurity and digital technology. The proposals, monitored by a Committee, will be implemented gradually.
Some came to “reflect the concerns of the Department”, such as the Toulouse Citizen Food Fund to respond to food insecurity. Others come exclusively from the Assembly's proposals. “In the area of water, reflections that we have never had have emerged, for example the question of the legal status of the Garonne was raised.”
“I discovered the role of elected officials”
Elisabeth, 72 years old, is in any case delighted with the experience and advises everyone to participate in the next Assembly. Elisabeth, 72, is in any case delighted with the experience. “We feel useful! I discovered the role of elected officials, I realized that they work a lot.” The only downside: the time allocated to digital was much less than that devoted to the ecological transition. “When we see the influence of social networks and the dependence on digital technology, it is nevertheless a central subject.” A second Citizens' Assembly will be formed in 2025. The call for applications will take place from March 1st. The number of participants should be lowered to around 110.
-Same story with Hugo, 32 years old: “The experience was generally positive but we only had six months left to tackle subjects, so there was a certain pressure at the end, which lost a lot of people. “
