The Minister of National Defense, Bill Blair, and the Minister of Transport, Anita Anand, supported Mr. Carney in a declaration on X, while Nate Erskine-Smith organized an event for the former governor of the Bank of Canada in his riding of Toronto.

In his statement, Mr. Blair said Canadians are worried about the threats they hear from the United States, a reference to the continuous promises of US President Donald Trump. He said Carney, a former governor of the Banque du Canada, “has experience and has proven himself in terms of national economies management in difficult times”.

« [Les Canadiens] want a leader who defends us and who defends everything that makes our country’s greatness, who knows how to manage an economy and who has the strength of character necessary to oppose a tyrant, “said Mr. Blair in his message , while stressing that Canadians are concerned about security issues.

During the event in Toronto, Mr. Carney assured his supporters that he would present himself as a deputy in the next elections, regardless of the outcome of the management race.

The Liberals will choose a new chief who will replace Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on March 9.

Seven candidates in total submitted the application documents and the submission of $ 50,000 necessary for registration last week to request to appear on the ballot. Among them are the ministers Karina Gould and Chrystia Freeland, the Jaime Battiste deputies and Chandra Arya as well as the former deputies Ruby Dhalla and Frank Baylis, in addition to Mr. Carney.
