SENEGAL-AFRICA-POLITICS / Gabon: the presidential election set for April 12 – Senegalese press agency

Dakar, Jan 24 (APS) – Gabonese voters will go to the polls on April 12 to elect a new President of the Republic, several media report.

This presidential election will mark the end of the military transition led by General Oligui Ngema, who came to power following a coup d’état against the Ali Bongo regime on August 30, 2023.

”The electoral college is convened on Saturday April 12, 2025 (…). The vote will take place from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., in accordance with the regulations in force,’ announced Séraphin Akuré Davain, spokesperson for the transitional government following the Council of Ministers on Wednesday.

A new electoral code was adopted on Monday by the transitional parliament, thus authorizing magistrates and soldiers to stand for election under certain conditions.
