The National Assembly of Senegal voted this Friday, January 24, 2025 in favor of lifting the parliamentary immunity of MP Mouhamadou known as Farba Ngom, thus opening the way to legal proceedings against him. Out of 136 voters including 10 by delegation, 130 voted for and 3 against with 3 abstentions.

This decision follows a request from the Financial Prosecutor, based on reports from the National Financial Information Processing Unit (Centif) which suspects the MP of offenses such as criminal association, money laundering, fraud involving public funds, influence peddling, tax fraud and misuse of corporate assets.

The ad hoc Commission of the National Assembly, responsible for examining this request, issued a favorable opinion on the lifting of Mr. Ngom’s parliamentary immunity. She considered that the Prosecutor’s request was serious and motivated, thus justifying the opening of legal proceedings to shed light on this matter.

This Friday’s plenary session was devoted to examining this recommendation. According to parliamentary procedures, only the president of the ad hoc committee, the rapporteur, the government representative, the MP concerned or his defender, and a MP with a contrary opinion are authorized to speak during these debates. After the interventions, a vote was organized.
