Signed by the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benaliand his Mauritanian counterpart, Mohamed Ould Khaledthis protocol concerns the implementation of projects intended to electrify rural areasto promote initiatives in favor of clean energy, as well as to harmonize electrical standards between the two countries.
It also provides for the exchange of expertise, technologies and best practices in network management and energy securityas well as strengthening human skills through joint training programs.
The agreement is part of the ambition to contribute to energy security, to the diversification of sources of supply and examining the implementation of a projectelectrical interconnectionmaking it possible to stabilize networks and improve electricity supply.
On this occasion, Ms. Benali stressed that the signing of this memorandum of understanding marks the start of a new phase of cooperation between the two ministries, but also between public and private sector institutions in Mauritania and Morocco, in the key sectors of renewable energies, green hydrogen and sustainable development.
The two neighboring countries are full of assets and potential likely to encourage the development of numerous projects capable of promoting economic and social development sustainable, and to consolidate regional integration between the European and African continents, with all that ensues in terms of strengthening the positioning of Africa in the global economyshe told the press.
The Mauritanian minister, for his part, affirmed that the agreement highlights the privileged fraternal relations between the Mauritania and Morocco, noting that the common objective is to raise the bilateral relations at the level of the aspirations of the heads of state of the two countries, His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the Mauritanian President Mohamed Old Sheikh El Ghazouani.
-Mr. Ould Khaled, on a working visit to the Kingdom, in this context highlighted the enormous potential available to the two countries, allowing them to position themselves as leaders in the field of renewable energies and of electricity.
The discussions between the two parties also addressed strategic projects major ones such as Morocco-Nigeria gas pipeline as well as those of renewable energies, particularly in the green hydrogen sector. The two ministers, in this regard, affirmed that bilateral relations find their foundation in a common vision oriented towards sustainable development and the promotion of Africa’s place, as a continent with exceptional potential for growth and prosperity.
The working visit of the Mauritanian minister is part of the dynamic of consultation and coordination between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Islamic Republic of Mauritaniawith the objective of intensifying bilateral relations and developing them in accordance with the High Guidelines of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the Mauritanian President, Mohamed was born Sheikh El Ghazouani.
The event brought together several officials from both countries, including the director general of the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE)the CEO of the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN)the general secretaries of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development departmentsand the general director of electricity and renewable energies in Mauritania.
