Mboro, Jan 24 (APS) – The new director general of Senegal’s chemical industries (ICS) announced that the company he has run since the start of the year, will speed up the compliance of his facilities with environmental requirements, in vigor.
Mamadou Sougoufara assured the Minister of the Environment and the Ecological Transition, Daouda Ngom, whom he received Thursday at the ICS factory located in Darou Khoudoss then in his offices in Mboro, that the company will proceed to ” Acceleration of the compliance plan [de ses] installations which date before the first 2001 environment code ”.
The Minister of the Environment and the Ecological Transition, Daouda Ngom, who went to several sites during this contact visit, stressed that it is imperative for ICS to comply with the environmental standards in force.
The administrative authorities of the region, local residents, officials of local authorities of the Méouane district, the Sustainable Environment and Development Commission and two members of the National Assembly Bureau had taken part in this visit.
Daouda Ngom also insisted on the need for ICS to take into account the well-being, security and socioeconomic development of local populations.
Mr. Sougoufara reported to the APS, at the end of his visit, the announcement of the “launch of a global plan on the environment and sustainable development including ISO 14001 certification to maintain international standards, in an approach continuous improvement ”.
The CEO of ICS newly installed at the head of this company mainly owned by Indorama Asian, also announced “the establishment of a business-territory platform, with a permanent framework for dialogue”.
-The ICS which produce phosphoric acid and fertilizers have gone through a difficult period in 2024, with the challenge of a collective of local residents, which demanded a revision of the compensation plan applied by the company concerning exploration and exploitation of their land.
