A trafficker from Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville has just received an imposing 30-year prison sentence in the United States after making a fortune by exporting millions of drug tablets, including fentanyl, from of the “dark web”.

“He distributed an incredible quantity of drugs all over the world, including in 49 American states,” emphasize the American prosecutors in their representations.

Arden McCann pleaded guilty in September 2023 to drug trafficking conspiracy and money laundering.

The resident of the South Shore of Montreal had been cornered by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

The two American agencies attributed the export of more than 10 kilos of fentanyl to him, between fall 2015 and winter 2020.

McCann was among 179 alleged “dark web” opioid traffickers who were apprehended in seven countries.

McCann, who used the aliases “Xanaxlabs” or “The MailMan,” shipped alprazolam tablets from Canada that he sold as Xanax and fentanyl.

On other occasions, he was the conduit between Chinese distributors and American consumers.

Its website “offered particularly easy ways to purchase these items,” according to US prosecutors.

At his peak, McCann could make up to US$1 million a month from his online business.

“The staggering amount of money he earned was a fair price for the death and destroyed lives of American citizens left in his wake,” US prosecutors said, noting that his period of activity coincided with an increase in overdoses. in the country.

McCann was arrested in Quebec in 2020, then extradited to the United States two years later.

The trafficker will have to pay a fine of one million US dollars. When he is released from prison, he will be on parole for 10 years.
