Since January 13, rue Saint-Acheul, located in a district of Amiens, has been under construction. 450 meters longthis road with medieval traces, connecting the railway to the Jules-Ferry road, bears the imprint of seven centuries of history. At the time, the monks of the abbey of Saint-Acheul took this path to reach the hortillonnages. The abbey now houses a school complex but the street still retains its historical charm while tending towards modernity.
Necessary work
This project aims to redesign the street while respecting climate and mobility issues. The goal is for the entire street to become one-way towards the old abbey. The sidewalks will be widened, a two-way cycle path will be put in place, and trees will be planted.
These arrangements aim to provide a more pleasant and secure living environment. So, in front of the school La Neuvillethe street will be transformed into a meeting area, limited to 20 km/hwhere pedestrians will have priority. Parking will be reorganized with alternation from one side of the road to the other to moderate vehicle speed. Although four parking spaces will be removed, thirteen new ones will be created at Impasse Bobillot, near the school and a future park.
A project in three phases
The work, which will last until the end of April, is taking place in three stages:
- Until mid-February : intervention between Chaussée Jules-Ferry and Rue Diderot. The direction of traffic will be reversed on rue Henri-Giffard and part of avenue d'Édimbourg.
- From mid-February to mid-March : work between rue Diderot and rue de Mireaumont, requiring the closure of rue Saint-Acheul to traffic, except for local residents. Rue de Berne will also experience a traffic reversal.
- From mid-March to the end of April : last phase between rue de Mireaumont and chemin du Réservoir, with similar closures and adjustments on rue de la Délivrance.
However, these dates are subject to change depending on the progress of the work.
-A new park
In addition to the street developments, a winning project of the 2024 participatory budget plans the creation of a park behind the La Neuville school. This green space, accessible via Chemin du Réservoir and Impasse Bobillot, will replace several dilapidated houses, including one infamous for a news item that occurred in 2015.
Designed with the residents of the neighborhood via the local committee, this park will offer fruit trees, benches, swings and spaces dedicated to intergenerational activities.
