Oliver Turvey joins Williams Formula 1 team as test and development driver

Oliver Turvey has been recruited by the Williams Formula 1 team as a test and development driver, with the aim of supporting the Grove team's progress in its new simulation system.

The Briton, who takes up the role after more than 15 years with McLaren, has carried out multiple tests with the Woking team during this period, alongside other racing activities. In addition to his motorsport commitments, Turvey studied engineering at Cambridge, which made him a highly sought-after development driver in , Formula E and endurance racing.

Turvey will contribute to the development of Williams' new driver-in-loop simulator, using his knowledge to validate the team's progress in preparation for new F1 regulations planned for 2026.

Aged 37, Turvey won the Autosport BRDC Prize in 2006, having finished second in that year's Formula BMW UK championship. He joined McLaren in 2009 as a development driver while competing in Formula Renault 3.5, continuing this role through various regulatory changes. Meanwhile, Turvey was also part of the Jota team that won the LMP2 class at the 24 Hours of in 2014, before joining the NEXTEV Formula E team at the end of the 2014-2015 season.
