“The choice of Morocco as host country of the CAN-2025 is no surprise, given his proven experience in organizing international Football competitions,” writes the CAF in a press release published on its official website, recalling in this sense the success of the Kingdom in organizing the African Nations Championship for local players (CHAN-2018)the Women’s CAN 2022 and the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup.
“Thanks to international-level infrastructure, a passionate public and recognized experience in hosting major sporting events, Morocco is ready to organize a CAN which will redefine the standards of this competition”, we read in the press release, recalling that the announcement of the choice of Morocco as host country of CAN-2025 on September 27, 2023 was received with “enthusiasm”.
According to the same source, Morocco had organized for the first time the African Cup of Nations in 1988with the participation of only eight teams, adding that for the 2025 edition, the tournament will experience a significant expansion, increasing to 24 teams, testifying to the impressive development of the African football over the past three decades.
