Reading Nights return for their 9thth edition, from January 23 to 26, 2025, under the sign of heritage.
The theme of heritage first opens onto an intimate dimension: that of transmission. Family heirlooms, memories, values, material or immaterial goods – sometimes even wounds – make up this personal heritage that writers question and reveal in their works. This dialogue with the past, real or reconstructed, nourishes an intimate literature, where each generation updates and reinterprets its own story.
But heritage goes beyond the individual sphere. They are also part of a collective heritage: that of a territory, a nation, or even of all humanity. Literature, as such, is not only witness to this heritage; it is also one of its essential components, helping to ensure its vitality and transmission.
Heritage or contemporary work, each text enriches a constantly evolving cultural heritage. Through the exceptional collections that it transmits, literature nourishes a material heritage; by shaping our imaginations, our knowledge and our representations, it is also part of an intangible heritage. Today's writers, in turn, are building tomorrow's heritage, thus perpetuating a living and abundant tradition.
Heritage, finally, is revealed through places steeped in history: monuments, churches, libraries, natural parks… These inspiring spaces become real stages for hosting readings, meetings and literary performances. These 9th Reading Nights will be an opportunity to bring these places to life through events that celebrate the works as much as the sites that host them.
