Tambacounda, January 21 (APS) – The general director of the Agricultural and Industrial Development Company (SODAGRI), Aboubacar Sidi Sonko, underlined, Tuesday, in Tambacounda (east), the need to modernize the agricultural equipment of producers in eastern Senegal to promote food sovereignty.
“Structural support is needed, especially with regard to the development part. By planning, we need modern equipment to achieve food sovereignty,” he declared.
Aboubacar Sidi Sonko was speaking on the sidelines of a tour to take him to the regions of Tambacounda, Kédougou, Kolda, Sédhiou and Ziguinchor.
He insisted on the need to move towards global support in terms of agricultural equipment, production and marketing.
»Sometimes, we can produce a lot of corn, but for the harvest, if we don’t have the necessary equipment, we can have difficulties. So, we need structural but also holistic support in terms of agricultural equipment,” said the SODAGRI general director.
He also underlined the need to put in place a framework to support farmers on the cultivation techniques to adopt.
“In terms of support, producers need technical support, advice to adopt good farming practices, because we are in a world where technology plays a key role in everything we do,” said Aboubacar Sidi Sonko.
