DECRYPTION – To begin to straighten out the public accounts, François Bayrou has committed to finding 30 billion euros in savings. Each ministry must present those it intends to achieve.
Closing the budget begins to resemble a carpentry workshop. Since Wednesday, Bayrou government ministers have been marching to the Senate podium to put their own budgets under the table. In his sights, the 5.4% deficit in 2025 set by the Prime Minister after the budgetary slippages of 2023 and 2024. To achieve this, he is counting on a total budgetary effort of 50 billion euros, including 20 billion euros in additional revenue and 30 billion in savings, the exact contours of which remain to be determined.
As for spending cuts, an effort of 2 billion euros will be requested from local authorities, and around 5 billion euros in savings will be included in the Social Security budget. The rest of the quantum will have to be released, by means of a plane, from the state budget, that is to say that of the various ministries.
We are aiming for a reduction in the State budget of 2% in volume compared to that of 2024, voted at 479 billion euros. This represents a reduction of 10 billion in state spending.
