It was a campaign promise, it is about to come true. Last Friday, through a press release, the French Football Federation (FFF) announced the launch of its project to create a professional Ligue 3 from the 2026/2027 season.
Marc Keller at the head of the steering committee
Meeting as an executive committee on Thursday in Paris, the FFF decided to take action regarding the professional Ligue 3 project. “Marc Keller, accompanied by a group of elected officials, will carry out work and consultations to transform the National into a professional Ligue 3 within the French Football Federation. This is a very important innovation that has been requested for a long time by National clubs” declared Philippe Diallo, the elected president of the federal body.
« I hope that this new professional championship will be part of an attractive, innovative, sustainable and regulated model. », Continues the successor of the very controversial Noël Le Graët. From now on, the steering committee must work on the operating methods of this third professional championship, from the competition format to the economic conditions including the regulatory rules (club statutes, training centers, number of locally trained players, salary cap …). An exciting project which is now open.
