Five prison officers from the Osny remand center, in Val-d'Oise, including a lieutenant, were arrested and placed in police custody, franceinfo learned on Tuesday January 21 from a source close to the case, confirming information from the newspaper The Parisian. The five prison guards must be presented to a magistrate for possible indictment on Wednesday.

The arrests took place urgently at dawn on Monday after a report from the prison administration last week. The five guards were arrested, at their homes or within the prison itself. They are suspected of having brought telephones for the detainees into the establishment, but also shisha equipment, particularly in boxes delivered by truck.

Investigators from the Val-d'Oise judicial police are now seeking to determine the extent of the corruption and whether or not the beneficiary prisoners have a link to drug trafficking. Investigations are being carried out for “aggravated corruption”, “criminal association” and “illicit delivery of an object into custody”.
