The Maris dairy farm, located in Ladignac-le-Long (Haute-Vienne), is experiencing serious difficulties after a diagnostic error that occurred a year ago. In January 2024, analyzes concluded that there were cases of bovine tuberculosis in the herd. Consequences: seven cows were slaughtered and all milk production was destroyed. Authorities later revealed the results were flawed following laboratory contamination, reports France 3 New Aquitaine.
They demanded 230,000 euros in compensation
Even if the rest of the herd was spared, the losses were considerable. “There is the moral damage which is difficult to measure, the image damage, because we have informed our customers of the problem”regrets Pascal Maris, the farm manager.
The farm “drags” encore “100,000 euros in unpaid bills”. Compensation of 230,000 euros was requested to compensate for the losses, but the Ministry of Agriculture rejected this request. “The State makes mistakes and does not take responsibility for them”estimates Maëlle Desbles, responsible for breeding. The breeders are now considering filing a complaint against the administration. A support rally took place in front of the Limoges prefecture this Monday, January 20.
