“Hello Denise, are you well? » Behind the counter of the multi-service grocery store in Taillis (Ille-et-Vilaine), Jacky Jubin knows almost every one of his clients.

That day, Denise, 89, came to do some shopping: jam, pasta, vanilla-flavored flans and especially rillettes. His guilty pleasure. A product that she regularly buys at Halle Dis. She can come three to four times a week. On foot because she no longer drives. “Are you going to leave us then?” », questions the Taillissienne.

The grocer actually wants to leave his business, the premises of which belong to the town hall.

A real place to live

He plans to retire, almost two years after taking over the grocery store, located in the heart of the town of 1 000 habitants. The merchant and the town hall are therefore looking for a buyer.

“I reopened it after two years of closure,” recalls the person concerned. The grocer quickly established itself to build customer loyalty and provide a service to the life of the town.

“I feel like I’ve lived in Taillis for 20 years. I know my customers well. They sometimes talk to me about their state of health,” confides Jacky Jubin.

It is also here that meetings take place between residents of the town. A real place to live. In addition to the basic groceries and the fresh produce section, the grocery store offers a cheese section and a cut charcuterie section, which are very popular as we have seen.

The business also stocks newspapers and bread. “I have 90 pieces reserved every Sunday,” emphasizes Jacky Jubin. On Fridays, pancakes and pancakes are offered. Furthermore, the parcel service of the pick-up network and the Post Office point bring a “flow of new customers who are just waiting to be converted”, continues the grocer.

The turnover, more than €10,000 per month, “far from being negligible”, is not yet sufficient to generate a monthly salary, but it already brings “added value”, notes Jacky Jubin who published an announcement on the SOS Villages website, the solidarity operation on TF1's 1 p.m. news.

To attract new customers, the grocer has ideas to pass on to the future buyer. “A good command of social networks would be an advantage, particularly in order to announce promotions. »

“It’s an essential business”

The town hall, owner of the premises and equipment, asks for a moderate rent and strongly supports the business. “It is essential for the community. It’s a close link for the elderly in particular,” explains Michel Sauvage, the mayor, who specifies that the municipality is making an “effort” on rentals.
The elected official specifies that the buyer will take over a business that is working. This is thanks to the work of Jacky Jubin. “We’re happy to have him. It has improved the business,” says Michel Sauvage, who announces that the municipality will also support the future buyer.

“Always in a good mood”

Open from Tuesday to Saturday, but also on Sunday morning, the premises have all the necessary facilities, including a positive cold room, air conditioning, two reserves and a commercial area of approximately 100 m².

“There is a base, but we must continue to develop,” explains Jacky Jubin. The latter also indicates working with “quality” suppliers. “We are renowned for products such as tripe, black pudding, and even rillettes. »

To successfully complete this adventure, the future retiree advises being interpersonally savvy and knowing how to manage your stock well. Still, the departure of Jacky Jubin will leave a void.

“He’s always in a good mood,” Denise smiles as she pays with her credit card. She will still be able to enjoy Jacky Jubin's smile for a few more weeks.
