Three Spaniards expelled from Dakhla: agitators under the guise of observers

The Moroccan authorities carried out the expulsion of three Spanish nationals – two supposed activists of the CEAS-Sáhara organization (State Coordination of Solidarity Associations with the Sahara) and a journalist from the daily Public – accused of disruptive activities in the city of Dakhla, in the Sahara and known for their openly pro-Polisario positions.

Arriving via a new direct air link between Madrid and the coastal city, the three individuals, allegedly on an “observation mission”, were expelled on Sunday January 19 after provoking tensions under the cover of meetings with members of a non-governmental organization. recognized locally.

According to local sources, the three Spaniards, who had booked their stay in one of Dakhla’s recent tourist complexes, attracted the attention of the authorities upon their arrival. Officials on site report that their behavior was in no way ordinary tourism but rather aimed to fuel a media campaign against the territorial integrity of Morocco. “Their attitude and their movements clearly suggested that they were there for something other than tourism”said a source close to the matter.

On the second day of their stay, the three Spaniards met in a private house with members of an organization advocating a discourse hostile to Moroccan sovereignty. Faced with what was perceived as an attempt at propaganda. The three individuals, escorted out of the city, were informed that their expulsion was the result of the strict application of national laws and the need to prevent any disturbance of public order. For the Moroccan authorities, this is a new episode of provocation orchestrated by groups seeking to undermine the image of the country and its territorial integrity.

They also reiterated their position according to which any individual or group attempting to disturb public order under false pretexts will be systematically asked to leave the territory.
