The steering committee responsible for regulating agricultural markets and supporting local production has decided to freeze onion imports from January 25, 2025. This measure is part of a strategy aimed at encouraging national production and stabilize markets.
During this meeting, an inventory of national production was carried out. The first onion harvests for 2025 are expected to hit the market in February, providing favorable prospects for meeting local demand.
It should be recalled that, according to circular letter No. 00000621/MIC/ARM/SG/SP of September 23, 2024, the previous lifting of the import freeze had set December 31, 2024 as the deadline for the introduction of foreign onions on the market.
