Seven young people from the Lignon district of Geneva set themselves a major challenge: reaching the summit of Mont Blanc. For nine months, they will train tirelessly to make their dream come true.
The great adventure began with an introduction to climbing. “There is one who climbs, one who maintains,” explains the guide, showing the actions to adopt. Under the watchful eye of supervisors, young people get their bearings. “Once I tie the knot, I go in there. No, not in there. We said in there and in there,” exclaims one of them, trying to control the technique.
Despite some initial difficulties, the motivation is there. “I’m not afraid of heights, so frankly I’m quite comfortable going there,” confides one participant. Another added: “It was a little complicated at first but now it’s okay.”
An ambitious and inspiring project
Behind this adventure is Marc Buschi, a neighborhood leader, who firmly believes in their potential. “If we put in the motivation, the time and the energy and if we want to do it, we can do it. There is no longer any need to prove all the educational virtues that we can have in the mountains and we see it here, all the energy they put into it, they want it. When we are in the neighborhood, they talk about it constantly,” he says.
Coming from Lignon, a popular district of Geneva with imposing towers, these young people want to prove that they are capable of great things. “The fact that we come from here makes us want to show people that we are not young people from the neighborhood who do nothing. That we are still determined and that we have want,” explains one of them.
-An inspiration from elsewhere
Last year, YouTuber Inoxtag achieved the feat of climbing Everest, arousing the admiration of the group. “We already had the project before. It was already underway. But it’s certain that with all the hype it gave, it motivated us even more and even people to follow us. Because it “It’s certain that young people from Lignon who are going to climb Mont-Blanc, who will believe it?” says Malik, one of the participants.
But they believe in it, and that’s the main thing. For the next nine months, they will do training sessions before facing the 4,800 meters of the highest mountain in Europe. An appointment is made in September to see if this dream will come true.
