The University of Neuchâtel will have to wait before knowing who will succeed its rector Kilian Stoffel. The UniNE Council communicates this Monday that it will relaunch the recruitment procedure which should have been completed these days: “Given the position taken by the University Assembly (AU) and the withdrawal of a of the last two candidates in the running for this position, [nous avons] decided to inform the Council of State that [nous allons] quickly submit this position to the competition.” A selection commission composed of five of the nine members of the UniNE Council will be responsible for making proposals.

This decision comes after the withdrawal of former socialist state councilor Laurent Kurth, whose candidacy was leaked before the holidays. Favorite, he was still in the running with the vice-rector of the institution, Martin Hilpert. “The AU decided that it wanted neither one nor the other” recalls the president of the UniNE, the former socialist State Councilor Didier Berberat. “The practice is that we present two candidates to the Council of State. So we decided to start from scratch.”
