The Metropolis of Lyon inaugurated this Wednesday, January 15, in the presence of the mayor of Lyon Gregory Doucet, a new section of Voie Lyonnaise n°7 (VL7). This section, offering infrastructure designed for cyclists, connects the 7th arrondissement of Lyon to Saint-Fons.
The Voie Lyonnaise n°7, a structuring project for the metropolitan network “dedicated to soft mobility”extends a little more. After the inaugurations of lines 5 and 11 last September, the southern part of this line was put into service. This segment, 4.5 kilometers long, connects the 7th arrondissement of Lyon to Avenue Jean-Jaurès in Saint-Fons.
This new development aims to secure complex passages, such as the Laurent Bonnevay ring road, and to offer cyclists a smooth route on busy routes, such as rue Garibaldi and the route de Vienne. In addition, 13 trees and nearly 7,000 plants were added to integrate more vegetation into the urban landscape.
However, the project is far from finished. Other sections remain under construction, notably in the 6th arrondissement, in Caluire-et-Cuire and in Feyzin. The redevelopment work on rue Garibaldi, including the removal of the hopper, should be completed by 2026, the date planned for the finalization of all 34 kilometers of the VL7, linking Rillieux-la-Pape to Solaize.
