The Prime Minister, François Bayrou, made a lot of concessions to prepare his budget, in particular by accepting requests from the Socialist Party in order to avoid censorship. According to Thierry Breton, former European Commissioner responsible for the internal market and services and guest of the Grand Rendez-vous, the image of France through the eyes and of the world “has deteriorated” in terms of public finances. “Then we are still at the fourth Prime Minister in one year and third government to draw up a budget.
