The environmentalist mayor of Besançon, Anne Vignot, condemned, on Saturday January 18, the “intimidation shots” suffered by three businesses in the city in one week, calling for “additional means” to fight against “drug trafficking”. “Today, we have a gang that is launching a form of intimidation on businesses. It looks like a mafia system”lamented the elected official.

During the night from Friday to Saturday, a grill restaurant was the target of gunfire which left several bullet holes on the facade and windows. The previous weekend, a hookah bar was targeted at night in Avanne-Avenay, around ten kilometers from Besançon. During the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, a barber in turn came under fire. Each time, the scene was deserted and there were no injuries.

“These mafiosi are taking the population hostage” et “when we are faced with a mafia system, it is a sovereign obligation to come and dismantle it”demands the mayor. Anne Vignot says wait “a strong and committed national policy, with additional resources”notably “reinforcements of the national police, investigators and reinforced scientific police”.

When requested, the Besançon public prosecutor's office indicated that a judicial investigation was underway. The prefecture announced the deployment of CRS 83 in Besançon on Saturday evening. Its mission will be “to press” the national police in order to “multiply control and security operations” in different neighborhoods.

“We refuse to allow Besançon to sink once again into a cycle of criminal acts linked to the settling of scores in drug trafficking”commented the LR opposition within the municipal council on Wednesday, demanding that “video protection be reinforced in all neighborhoods, but also and above all that the municipality reviews its position on the issue of weaponry and the missions of the municipal police.”
