While in British waters, a French fishing boat was violently run into by a British ship on the night of January 14/15.
-José Leprêtre, boss of the boat “Rose de Cascia”, is still shaken after the attack he suffered. This could have cost him his life, as well as his five sailors. On the night of Tuesday January 14 to Wednesday January 15, at 2:30 a.m., one of its fishermen sounded the alert after being hooked by a boat. “He had all his lights off and his reconnaissance transmitter beacon was off”explains José Leprêtre.
Turning on his searchlights, the skipper recognizes a British ship: the Henk Senior. With a grappling hook, the crew of this boat grabs one of the cables which connects the French trawler to its net, then cuts it. The fishermen try to recover the damaged nets, risking their lives. Did the British ship want to intimidate the French crew? The incident occurred in English waters where tensions are increasing between fishermen, particularly since Brexit. Such a collision is a first in the Channel.
