Obscura frontman Steffen Kummerer has spoken out for the first time about accusations of plagiarism made by former members of the band. These controversies surround songs from the group’s next album, A Sonicationexpected for February 7.
Accusations of plagiarism of riffs and ideas
Last week, former Obscura bassist Alex Weber accused Kummerer of using song ideas he presented before his departure. According to Weber, Kummerer assured him that these ideas would not be used. However, they would now appear on the single Evenfall.
Christian Münzner, ex-guitarist of the group, also denounced a similar situation, but took a more virulent approach, announcing his intention to take legal action against Kummerer for theft of intellectual property.

Steffen Kummerer’s response
In a recent interview with Roadie CrewKummerer responded to the accusations: “I think there is a lot of frustration behind this story. All this public lynching is completely unnecessary. If I have a problem with someone, I pick up the phone and resolve it directly with them, not on social media by launching a ‘witch hunt’.”
-“Their intention was not to solve the ‘problems’. It’s very sad, because I worked with these guys for a long time, and we left on a relatively good note. I sent the whole album, the final product, as soon as possible for them to listen to; I have nothing to hide. Now I have to deal with someone putting the whole campaign for the new album on hold. It’s very unfortunate, but it’s done, people already have their opinions. No one wants to hear the other side of the story. I will deal with it, but on my terms, not publicly.”
“Today, when we deal with this kind of thing in public, it doesn’t reflect well on the person doing it. This is not a mature approach. In the end, everyone loses.”
A tense situation around the release of the album
Evenfallthe single at the heart of the accusations, is part of the album A Sonicationa project particularly awaited by fans of technical Death Metal. The controversy could nevertheless disrupt its promotion.
Kummerer concluded by stating that he would not issue an official statement on the matter and would handle the issue privately. Despite this turbulence, he remains focused on the release of the album and the future of the group.
