New disruptions at the Léonard crossroads from this Monday: the E411 tunnels will be closed at night… in addition to the embarrassments on the Ring

However, we learned this Friday that, from January 20, “preparatory work in the two tunnels of the E411″ will be launched. With consequences on traffic: “the tunnel will be closed every night [de semaine] between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. On Saturday morning, the work will last until 8 a.m. Traffic on the E411 will be diverted via Groenendael and the Quatre Bras crossroads.”

This nighttime closure adds to the current disruptions on the Ring, both day and night. As announced at the end of 2024, the Flemish agency is keeping the April-May horizon for the reopening of the Waterloo-Auderghem and Auderghem-Waterloo ramps, which provide the junction between the Lion City and Herrmann-Debroux. A reopening initially planned for last November but ultimately delayed by several months.

A band towards Brussels from spring

In the spring, once the Ring roads have theoretically reopened, the E411 will experience daytime disruptions at the Léonard crossroads. All traffic will be diverted to one side of the highway. From Namur to Brussels, only one band will be available. From Brussels to Namur, two lanes will be maintained. In the spring, we learned that the Waterloo-Auderghem junction will finally be closed in the evening. The Ring tunnels will remain, as currently, inaccessible in the evening until the end of 2025.

Note that, since January 16, traffic on the outer ring (from Waterloo to Zaventem) is once again via the appropriate tunnel. But other embarrassments are added in the sector. In Jezus-Eik, a stone’s throw from the Leonard crossroads, a new project has started with a view to destroying the current bridge and replacing it with two new bridges (one for soft mobility, one for motorized traffic).

From February, passage on the E411 will be further hampered with narrowed lanes and a speed limit. A project which should last until the summer of 2026, with even more impactful disruptions between now and then… Embarrassments also to come on the side of the La Hulpe exit with the renovation of a small motorway bridge: from March , traffic on the E411 will be hampered. A project also planned until 2026…
