Switzerland, however, retains all its chances of qualifying for the final round. She simply must not lose on Sunday against Poland. If it evolves in the same register as against Germany, Andy Schmid’s team should not cause any major concerns.

She, in fact, offered a superb response to the silver medalists of the Games. Without the brilliance of German goalkeeper Andreas Wolff who really had a great night, the Swiss could even have won. They led 26-25 in the 51st before suffering a fatal empty spell. At 27-27, Germany had to score three goals in a row to force the decision in this meeting.

Author of 7 goals, Lenny Rubin was the top scorer for a Swiss team which commanded respect. It’s now up to her not to get tripped up on Sunday against Poland.
