Since the passage of Cyclone Chido and the postponement of the start of the school year in Mayotte, the city of Port has recorded around twenty additional registrations in its primary schools.

The start of the school year is fast approaching, and some schools in will see their numbers somewhat modified due to the passage of Cyclone Chido, which damaged many schools in Mayotte and forced the rectorate to postpone the start of the school year until January 27.

This is the case in the town of Port, which is preparing to welcome around twenty additional students in its various establishments.

According to our information, other municipalities have received similar requests: 23 in Saint-André, eight in Saint-Paul, five in , one in Saint-Leu… Quite far from the wave feared by some when the president of the Republic, during his field visit to Mayotte, had mentioned the possibility of transferring students “to Reunion or elsewhere”.

Zainaba Ali, a civil servant visiting Reunion Island, plans to keep her children with her in Mayotte in any case. “If I register them, it means that I will have to leave them here with a family member, an acquaintance, or a host family and I return to Mayotte. But I cannot live without them and I prefer that 'they go to school in Mayotte'assures the mother. “I know it will be difficult at first because their world has changed a little but they will adapt.”

The start of the school year in Reunion Island will take place on Tuesday January 21.
