Do you communicate with your loved ones by SMS? Please note, this feature will soon disappear to be replaced by a new one.
When cell phones appeared, texting was a technological feat. The first text message was transmitted on December 22, 1992, when British computer developer Neil Papworth sent “Merry Christmas” to his colleague Richard Jarvis. Time has passed and we have been using this means of communication for decades to chat with our loved ones. This functionality is constantly developing, since it will soon be possible to see the names of people who send us a message, even if we do not have their number.
But today, SMS has competition. Indeed, many instant messaging applications are available, such as Whatsapp and Messenger. These apps offer so many features that many of us are abandoning texting. As Maison & Travaux points out, these are always limited to 160 characters and do not allow you to send voice messages or transmit your GPS position.

For this reason, SMS will soon disappear. But rest assured: they will be replaced by brand new technology.
-New SMS
SMS will be replaced by RCS (Rich Communication Services). This feature is already present on many Android phones. Just like apps, it has no character limits. It is also possible to send documents and images, create group conversations and share your location. You will also be able to react to messages from your loved ones with emojis, which is currently impossible with SMS.

If RCS are already present on Android phones, this is not the case at Apple. In addition to this, some operators do not yet use this function, such as Orange, La Poste Mobile and Lyca. We will have to wait until 2025 to see RCS appear on all smartphones.
