” Victory ! », writes Danielle Simonnet on X this Friday noon. The MP (NFP) for the 15th constituency of Paris, which rebellious France had refused to support in the early legislative elections of July 2024, saw the Constitutional Council reject the request for cancellation of the election filed by rebellious candidate Céline Verzeletti.
In this constituency, which covers the 20th arrondissement of Paris, Danielle Simonnet was a candidate for her own succession after the dissolution of the National Assembly, she who had been sitting in the National Assembly since 2022 under the color of France Insoumise. However, the party preferred to nominate another candidate over CGT trade unionist Céline Verzeletti.
The two left-wing candidates had both qualified for the second round, before the victory of the outgoing MP by a very large majority, with almost 75% of the votes. Ten days after the election, Céline Verzeletti contacted the Constitutional Council to request the annulment of the results. The Wise Men decided this Friday, January 17 to reject this request.
-In its decision, the Constitutional Council considers that “the facts denounced are not likely to have created confusion in the minds of the voters such that the outcome of the vote was affected”, arguing that the voters were aware of the situation of Danielle Simonnet and that the latter had received the support of representatives of the NFP.
“A decision bringing hope, which attests that the New Popular Front belongs to its voters, to its activists, to those who ardently defend its program, and not only to the leadership of the political party apparatus,” rejoices Danielle Simonnet on X.
