FLASH NEWS – The Grenoble basin and Nord-Isère have been classified under level N1 pollution alert procedure since Friday January 17, 2025 in the morning. The classification involves a reduction in speed on main roads and several restrictions on housing, as well as specific measures for businesses and farmers.
The Isère prefecture activates the N1 level alert procedure on Friday January 17, 2025 in the face of an episode of air pollution in the Grenoble basin (linked to combustion) as in Nord-Isère, in the Lyon basin (pollution ” mixed “). A procedure which is accompanied by a certain number of measures and restrictions, in terms of travel but also housing, which apply to all citizens.
Regarding travel, the speed is lowered by 20 km/h on all roads in the Grenoble or Lyon basins where it is equal to or greater than 90 km/h. On roads where the authorized speed is 80 km/h, it is reduced by 10 km/h. More generally, the speed is limited to 70 km/h throughout the territories of the Grenoble Metropolis, Grésivaudan and the Pays Voironnais.

In addition, only vehicles with a Crit'air 0, 1 or 2 certificate can circulate in the municipalities of the Grenoble Metropolis, as well as in the municipalities of Bourgoin-Jallieu, Chasse-sur-Rhône, L'Isle d 'Abeau, Pont-Evêque, Saint-Quentin-Fallavier, Vaulx-Milieu, La Verpillère, Vienne, Villefontaine and Seyssuel. In other municipalities, only vehicles with a Crit'air 0, 1, 2 or 3 are authorized. However, the A7, A7 Nord, A43, A48, A480, A49, A41S, A51 motorways and the national roads RN7, RN85, RN87 and RN481, where only the obligation to have an air quality certificate remains.
-The use of wood or its derivatives as individual supplementary or recreational heating is prohibited. The burning of waste is prohibited and any exemptions suspended. Residents are asked to maintain a building temperature of 18°C. Maintenance work with non-electric tools or products based on organic solvents is also prohibited, in private places as well as in green spaces and public gardens. Farmers and businesses are also subject to restrictions on fine particle emissions.
The most sensitive or vulnerable people are invited to exercise caution during the episode of pollution that the Isère region is experiencing. It is recommended to move away from major roads during peak periods, and more generally to keep children away from automobile pollution. It is also advisable to limit outings during the afternoon (between 1 p.m. and 8 p.m.), and intense physical and sporting activities outdoors.
