They come from Tarn, Toulouse or even Paris. The Arnaud Neyrolles trio, made up of Arnaud on guitar, Mathilde Bayle on violin and Erige Cano on double bass, arrived in the bastide for a three-day residency at the cultural center. The idea comes from Mathilde, who visited the walls a few months ago with Rémi Dugué: “I discovered the VilleneuVoix system. There was still a niche left. It was perfect for the trio. »
Because the latter has existed for barely a year, made up of two duos, the common member of which was Erige Cano. “We have reinvented mathematics,” says Arnaud Neyrolles. For us, two and two made three. » Three professional musicians who went through classical or jazz conservatories and multiple training courses before coming together around the guitarist's compositions. “What interested us was developing melodic jazz. We are not into free jazz. » And Mathilde cites as inspiration a Jacques Demy or a Grappelli playing for “Les Valseuses”, composers that the trio liked to cover in its beginnings.
Singing too
On a few pieces, Mathilde Bayle even gave in to the sirens of the voice and started singing, “notably on one of our pieces which borrows one of his texts from the poet Clément Marot. » For the rest, when the words are there, it is still Arnaud Neyrolles who brought out of the closets some of his writings “a bit absurd, à la Boris Vian”.
They have been playing the stage since their creation in March, but with covers to finalize their set. The VilleneuVoix residency allowed them to put together the compositions they lacked, with “an external ear and not necessarily from jazz. This is what we also came here to look for.”
After these three days, the Arnaud Neyrolles trio will therefore be in concert on the stage of the cultural center, to finish prowling the work carried out by passing the milestone of the Villeneuvois public.
Concert Saturday, January 18, at 6:30 p.m., at the cultural center. Free.
