Dakar is preparing to welcome an ambitious new public transport network, the launch of which was recently announced during the Regional Development Committee (CRD) on January 14, 2025. This project, supported by the Executive Council of Urban Transport of Dakar, (CETUD) as project owner and the Road Works and Management Agency (AGEROUTE) as project manager, represents a major advance in the public transport sector of the city.

This project to restructure the public transport network in Dakar (RTC), according to the Senegalese Government website vie publique.sn, aims to modernize and optimize the entire urban transport system. With a budget of 268 billion FCFA, this initiative aims to transform the daily travel of residents. This project will offer them a smoother, faster and more environmentally friendly alternative, according to the same source.
The restructuring of the transport network in Dakar is divided into several phases, with the first launched on May 30, 2024. Scheduled to end at the end of 2026, this first phase should directly impact nearly 3,000 people. These are those living on the routes of the new lines. The project will notably include the creation of 14 new bus lines, as well as modification of the route of 11 existing lines.

In addition, 400 buses will be deployed to transport no less than 465,000 travelers per day on a network of 30 km of roads. This project also promises to significantly improve traffic flow and facilitate access to public transport in several areas of Dakar. In addition to the new lines and additional buses, the project also includes infrastructure development works. Nine strategic intersections will be redeveloped to improve traffic flow and reduce travel times. This integrated approach aims to resolve a large part of the congestion problems that characterize Dakar.
