The Spanish Commissioner General of Information, Javier Antonio Susín Bercero, is visiting Morocco. This Wednesday in Rabat, he had meetings with the Director General of National Security (DGSN) and Territorial Surveillance (DGST), Abdellatif Hammouchi.
“This visit is of capital importance given that the newly appointed Spanish Commissioner General of Information (since November 18, 2024, editor’s note), chose Morocco for his first visit abroad with the aim of promoting relations of bilateral cooperation in the field of the fight against terrorism and violent extremism,” indicates the DGST in a press release.
The discussions focused “on the assessment of risks and terrorist threats in the various hotbeds of tension throughout the world, particularly in the Sahel and Sahara region, as well as on the valorization and strengthening of operations carried out jointly for the fight against terrorism and violent extremism,” adds the same source.
Hammouchi and Bercero also examined “the role that the DGST services can play within the framework of joint efforts on the occasion of the 2030 World Cup, organized jointly by Morocco, Spain and Portugal, in particular “the aspect relating to criminal intelligence, proactivity and the neutralization of all dangers to public security”.
The Spanish official also expressed his country’s wish to continue to benefit from the support of the DGST to confront terrorism, particularly in a global context marked by growing and complex security challenges. He also insisted on the importance of strengthening joint operations and simultaneous arrests, carried out by the security services of the two countries in radicalized environments, both in Morocco and in Spain.
