The work of the 24th session of the committee of Arab ministers responsible for cultural affairs began in Rabat, Wednesday January 15, under the presidency of Morocco. The Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication Mehdi Bensaïd chaired this session which addressed several themes.

In his opening speech, Mr. Bensaïd reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to strengthening joint Arab action. He stressed that this cooperation, according to the royal vision, “must be pragmatic, realistic and focused on the shared interests of Arab nations.” He also recalled that multilateral cooperation “constitutes a major pillar of Rabat’s foreign policy.”

The minister highlighted Morocco’s experience in the field of cultural and creative industries, stressing that the country is available to Arab countries to share its initiatives and knowledge. He thus presented an action plan intended to promote these industries as engines of economic development. As such, Mr. Bensaïd proposed the creation of a permanent professional forum to promote the exchange of know-how, the expansion of partnerships and the unification of efforts to meet the challenges of the sector. This forum, dedicated to the cultural and creative industries, would be the first Arab platform bringing together the various players in the sector, from businessmen to organizers of cultural events, including publishers and technology and cultural heritage professionals. .

The minister also called for the formation of a strong Arab coalition to negotiate with large social media companies. He insisted “on the need to promote Arabic digital content, combat disinformation, and highlight Arab cultural diversity while supporting common causes, including the Palestinian issue.” He reaffirmed before his counterparts Morocco’s firm position in support of the Palestinian people.

The summit brings together, alongside Arab ministers of culture, international organizations such as UNESCO and ISESCO, to address issues linked to the cultural and creative industries, while exploring the challenges of digital and emerging technologies, such as than artificial intelligence.
