A man was sentenced to 12 months in prison, eight of which were suspended, after dropping a kilo of cannabis in front of police officers while on a scooter. It was another motorist who pointed out to him that his backpack which contained the resin had fallen at a red light.
Very bad timing. A 21-year-old man who dropped a kilo of cannabis resin in front of police officers in Châteauroux (Indre) on Wednesday January 8 was sentenced to 12 months in prison, eight of which were suspended, report the national police, La Nouvelle République and France Bleu .
On the day of the incident, the man was riding an electric scooter and was stopped at a red light when a motorist next to him indicated that he had dropped the bag he was carrying. When bending down to pick it up, the driver of the electric scooter noticed the presence of police officers also located at the red light and fled, abandoning the bag. He then manages to outrun the police.
Unknown to police until now
Shortly after, he returned to the scene to collect his cargo but without realizing that the police had remained nearby awaiting his possible return. He was then arrested and the kilo of cannabis resin divided into two blocks which was in his bag was seized.
-His conviction, pronounced after a prior admission of guilt, was accompanied by two years' probation. The young man was not known to the police until now, which means that the four months in prison to which he was sentenced should not give rise to incarceration but rather to a modification of the sentence (for example, example electronic bracelet or semi-liberty regime), according to the decision of the sentence enforcement judge (JAP).
